Applying Quadratic Scoring Rule transparently in multiple choice settings : A note by Florian
نویسندگان
چکیده
The quadratic scoring rule (QSR) is often used to guarantee an incentive compatible elicitation of subjective probabilities over events. Experimentalists have regularly not been able to ensure that subjects fully comprehend the consequences of their actions on payoffs given the rules of the games. In this note, we present a procedure that allows the transparent use of the QSR even in multiple-choice scenarios. For that purpose, two methodological means are applied: an alternative representation of the score and a short learning period to familiarize subjects with the payoff mechanism. The results suggest that both means were necessary and successful in facilitating subjects’ understanding of the rule. JEL codes: D84, C90

Guessing in Multiple Choice Questions: Challenges and Strategies
Introduction: Guessing is one of the most challenging issues in multiple choice questions. Several strategies, such as negative scoring, have been suggested for preventing students from choosing the right answer just by chance. However, there is no general agreement on using such strategies. The aim of this study was to review the scoring methods which are used for reducing guessing, and evalua...
متن کاملIntroducing a Non-Dichotomous Method for Scoring Selected-Response Tests
The main purpose of this study was to introduce a new non-dichotomous scoring procedure for the multiple-choice test method, called Parledge. The research also aimed to determine Parledge characteristics through a psychometric study comparing it with the “Number Correct” and “Correction for Guessing” scoring methods. There were 35 students participating in the study who were given a vocabulary ...
متن کاملThe Response of Two-Degree of Freedom Self-Sustained Systems with Quadratic Nonlinearities to a Parametric Excitation (RESEARCH NOTE)
In this study the interaction between self-excited and paramet rically excited oscillations in two-degree-of-freedom systems with quadratic nonlinearities is investigated. The fundamental parametric resonance of the first mode and 3:1 internal resonance is considered, followed by 1:2 internal and parametric resonances of the second mode. The method of multiple time scales is applied to derive f...
متن کاملAxiomatic Characterization of the Quadratic Scoring Rule
In the evaluation of experiments often the problem arises of how to compare the predictive success of competing probabilistic theories. The quadratic scoring rule can be used for this purpose. Originally, this rule was proposed as an incentive compatible elicitation method for probabilistic expert judgments. It is shown that up to a positive linear transformation, the quadratic scoring rule is ...
متن کاملOn Eliciting Beliefs in Strategic Games1
Several recent studies in experimental economics have tried to measure beliefs of subjects engaged in strategic games with other subjects. Using data from one such study we conduct an experiment where our experienced subjects observe early rounds of strategy choices from that study and are given monetary incentives to report forecasts of choices in later rounds. We elicit beliefs using three di...
